Meet Your MSC Board: January Feature Katey Aldinger

I was born and raised in Highland, Illinois. Ironically, we were only 30 minutes from Scott AFB but I never had any affiliation with the base or really even realized it was there growing up. I met my husband, Adam, after my freshman year of college in 2005. We were married 2 years later in July 2007. My time as a military wife has been a hectic but a wonderful one! We have endured many deployments, numerous TDYs and leaving our families and friends as well.

               
During our time at our last duty station I went to many spouse functions and became a key spouse of my husband’s squadron. That is when I really started to understand the saying “it’s the wonderful life of the military wife! Many lifelong friends were made during our time at Scott and then we got orders to Moody AFB. I vowed to make this base and our time here as wonderful as our last, and so far I think Moody has proven to be just as great! My number one motto is “each base is what you make of it.” I just tell myself to take the good and the bad and try to see the silver lining. Moody has so many wonderful opportunities for spouses to get involved and I dove in head first. I am currently serving as the co-key spouse for my husband’s squadron, on the MSC Board and also am directing a MOPS group that starts in January!

               
Our family has grown over the last 5 years as well. We started out with one rowdy beagle to see how we would handle being “parents.” After that first year, which was rough, we decided to get another dog and a month later we found out we were expecting! Talk about increasing the numbers in our house fast! Just recently we added a kitten into the mix, so he makes 4 “guys” and then there is me. In February our son, Jude, will turn a year old and a whole new mix of fun will begin. Military life may have its downs, but there are so many people in our community willing to help out that it makes it a little easier. In my experience the good definitely outweighs the bad, and I always remember that if I’m at the bottom the only way to go is up!

Meet your MSC Board! December: Angie Compton

I was born and raised in Southern Ohio.  I am the oldest of four daughters.  My parents and sisters still live in the little town in Ohio that I came from, but I met this boy one day at the grocery store where I worked and that was pretty much the end of me living in that small town in Ohio.  Other than an Aunt that I heard about on occasion, I had never met anyone who had left home and stayed away.  The thought of globe trotting with Matt was scary at the beginning but it has worked out for me.

I married Matt in April 1990 and our first assignment was Ft. Walton Beach, FL.  I was so homesick that I honestly thought this was a horrible place to be assigned.  I guess the saying that "each assignment is what you make of it" is really true.  I also believe in karma...I truly have gotten to see horrible assignments. 

Our oldest daughter, Samantha, was born in 1991.  After a year long tour in Korea and our reunion at Holloman AFB in NM (the karma assignment) we were blessed with our second bundle of joy, Katie, in 1993.  

Matt's job keeps him on the road quite a bit.  We decided when I was pregnant with Sammie, that if there were anyway at all for us to live comfortably on his paycheck, that I would stay home and raise our children with our morals and our values.  So that is what I have done for the last 19 years.  Being a stay at home Mom isn't always peaches and rainbows, as most everyone knows, but I have to say it was worth all of the frustration, tears, fears and crying to see my girls at the ages they are now and to KNOW that they are amazing, intelligent, kind-hearted and generous people because of me.

I truly believe in giving back to our military community.  I also believe in teaching the next generation of military wives the importance of getting out and getting involved in their military community.  Getting involved and getting to know people is THE difference between a great assignment and a karma assignment.

Meet your MSC Board! October-November Kelly DeMaso

I was born in Oneonta NY in the Fall, my favorite season.  Although I was raised in upstate New York, I’m truly a southern girl at heart and feel very much at home south of the Mason-Dixon line.  I met Bill in college and we were married in 1993.  I was a first grade teacher for ten years before the arrival of our two wonderful daughters, Julianna (2000) and Isabella (2001).  We also have two, not always so wonderful dogs, Max and Dixie.  Now, I love having the opportunity to be an ‘at home mom’ and volunteer at the girls’ school as well as some of the base and local organizations.  I joined the MSC shortly after our arrival and truly have enjoyed getting to know many of the amazing spouses I have met over the past year.  I am so impressed with the many volunteers who donate their time, talent and treasure towards making Moody such an unique and special community.  My family and I have been blessed with many great assignments and I’m counting on adding Moody Air Force Base to that list.  God Bless and thank you to all who are serving this base and nation as well as those fabulous spouses who support our airmen and makes this US Air Force the greatest in the world!
