Hello all! My name is Summer Woodruff and I have been a proud Air Force wife for almost 15 years. I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and grew up between Texas and Illinois. My husband and I met in Springfield, IL in 1994 and were happily married in 1995. We began our AF adventure in Oklahoma City, OK and 8 moves later will soon be heading to Incirlik AFB, Turkey! This will be our first overseas assignment and our entire family is looking forward to the new adventure.
My husband is part of the 824th Base Defense Squadron here at Moody AFB. This is our second time here; my youngest daughter was born in Valdosta 9 years ago. It is hard to believe how fast time flies, especially since my oldest became a teenager last year. Am I old enough to have a teenager? Anyway, we have enjoyed Valdosta both times; the close proximity to all the attractions in Florida and Atlanta make this assignment one to be remembered.
The best part of any assignment for me, no matter where it may be, has always been the friends I have made along the way, and Moody is no exception. As is the norm with my family and I, after 2-3 years in one location, we are ready to move on to our next adventure…after all, that is one of the advantages of serving in the Air Force…new places, new adventures. However, I am dreading, as I always do, leaving all of my wonderful friends behind; I am tearing up now just thinking about it. It is so important with the Air Force lifestyle that we really plug in to the community so that we can meet other spouses who have and will experience the same things we do. These connections really come in handy when we need a shoulder to cry on or someone to talk to. One of the first things I did when we got to Moody was to find the Spouses Club and then connect with the Key Spouses in the squadron. Both of these support networks are terrific resources for getting connected and meeting friends. It makes your assignment much more fun!
So many wonderful memories have been made and will continue to be made. We, as military wives have such a unique opportunity to see places we may never have seen, meet people we may never have met, and build friendships that will last forever. Make the best of everywhere you go and enjoy it to the fullest!
